Awards

This award is given at the International Turkish Orthodontic Association (TOD) congresses and symposiums. To apply for the Research Poster Award, the following criteria must be met:

  • The research must be original and unpublished.
  • The researcher presenting the study must have completed their specialization or doctoral education within the last 5 years and must be a TOD member. The researcher must also be registered for the congress/symposium.
  • Applicants must indicate their intention to apply for the award on the abstract form and upload the full text of the research (including tables, figures, and references) before the final abstract submission date. The research's full text must not exceed 10 pages.
  • The Scientific Committee will evaluate the full text and inform the author about its eligibility for the Research Poster Award nomination.
  • Eligible research will be presented by the researcher during the congress/symposium (provided the researcher is registered for the event) and scored by the Scientific Committee.
  • The highest-scoring research will be awarded the Research Poster Award.
  • The decision of the Scientific Committee will be announced during the congress/symposium.
  • The TOD reserves the right to determine the amount of the Research Poster Award.
  • The Research Poster Award will be granted if there are sufficient eligible studies as determined by the Scientific Committee.

This award is presented in memory of Prof. Dr. Ayhan Enacar at the International Turkish Orthodontic Association (TOD) congresses.

Prof. Dr. Ayhan Enacar, one of the leading figures of Turkish orthodontics, was born in 1954 in Ankara. He started his education at Barbaros Primary School, continued to Yenimahalle Secondary School, and completed his high school education at Tevfik Fikret High School. During part of his high school years, he studied in France at Strasbourg Gimnase Jean Strum due to his mother's work. In 1971, he entered the Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry. Throughout his education, Prof. Dr. Koral Çalgan provided him with classical violin lessons.

During his studies at Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry, his poems were published in Turkish journals such as "Türkiye Yazıları", "Türk Dili", and "Ilgaz". From 1977-1979, he was featured in Varlık Yıllığı alongside his contemporaries, Enis Batur and Murathan Mungan, as one of the "promising poets."

After graduating from Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry in 1976, he began his doctoral studies at the Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics, in 1977. He became a specialist in 1981, an associate professor in 1985, and a professor in 1993. On the request of his mentor, Prof. Dr. Serpil Aytan, he founded the Orthodontic Association, which was later renamed Türk Ortodonti Derneği by Prof. Dr. İlter Uzel and himself. In 2000, he was elected president of the Turkish Orthodontic Association. He was also a member of several prominent organizations, including the European Orthodontic Society, World Federation of Orthodontists, and the New York Academy of Sciences.

Prof. Dr. Ayhan Enacar passed away in 2004, leaving behind many national and international publications, two books, and chapters in five other books. He contributed significantly to the education of many orthodontists through his Bioprogressive Treatment courses and congress presentations.

To apply for the Ayhan Enacar Case Report Award, the following conditions must be met:

  1. The case report must be unpublished.
  2. The researcher presenting the case must have completed their specialization/doctorate within the last 5 years and must be a TOD member.
  3. Applicants must indicate their intention to apply for the award on the abstract form and upload a 5-slide presentation of the case along with the abstract before the final abstract submission date.
  4. The Scientific Committee will evaluate the case report and inform the author about its eligibility for the Ayhan Enacar Case Report Award nomination.
  5. Eligible case reports will be presented by the author during the congress/symposium (provided the author is registered for the event) and scored by the Scientific Committee.
  6. The highest-scoring case report will be awarded the Ayhan Enacar Case Report Award.
  7. The decision of the Scientific Committee will be announced during the congress/symposium.
  8. TOD reserves the right to determine the amount of the Ayhan Enacar Case Report Award.
  9. The award will be granted if there are sufficient eligible case reports, as determined by the Scientific Committee.

This award is presented in memory of Prof. Dr. Orhan Okyay at the International Turkish Orthodontic Association (TOD) congresses and symposiums.

Prof. Dr. Orhan Okyay was born in 1898 in Istanbul. He graduated from Galatasaray High School and then completed his studies at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, School of Dentistry in 1924. In 1925, he became an assistant at the same institution and, thanks to a scholarship provided by the French Government, he went to Paris in 1926, where he graduated from the Paris School of Dentistry. During his studies in Paris, he became interested in orthodontics and studied under Prof. G. Villain. Upon returning to Turkey, he continued his assistantship and began lecturing on jaw orthopedics to students in the form of conferences. In 1933, following the University Reform, he became an associate professor. During this period, orthodontics was no longer just a lecture but became a separate course in the dental curriculum.

In 1936, he went to Canada to complete his doctoral studies at Montreal Faculty. In 1948, with the establishment of the Department of Jaw Orthopedics as an independent department, Dr. Orhan Okyay was appointed as the professor of the Orthodontics Chair. From 1966 to 1970, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and as the head of the department until 1974. During his tenure, he trained many prominent scientists who significantly contributed to Turkish Orthodontics. Prof. Dr. Okyay passed away in 1975 and was the first Turkish member of the European Orthodontic Society. His works include "Children’s Dental Book", "Orthodontic Lectures" (1930), "Orthodontic Knowledge Every Dentist Needs" (1939), and "Preventive Orthodontics" (1948).

  1. The research must be original and unpublished.
  2. The researcher presenting the study must have completed their specialization/doctorate within the last 5 years and must be a TOD member.
  3. Applicants must indicate their intention to apply for the award on the abstract form and upload the full text of the research (including tables, figures, and references) before the final abstract submission date. The research's full text must not exceed 10 pages.
  4. The Scientific Committee will evaluate the full text and inform the author about its eligibility for the Orhan Okyay Oral Presentation Award nomination.
  5. Eligible research will be presented by the researcher during the congress/symposium (provided the researcher is registered for the event) and scored by the Scientific Committee.
  6. The highest-scoring research will be awarded the Orhan Okyay Oral Presentation Award.
  7. The decision of the Scientific Committee will be announced during the congress/symposium.

  9. The award will be granted if there are sufficient eligible research submissions, as determined by the Scientific Committee.

Yasemen Boncuk Tüzgiray was born in 1984 in Bursa, Turkey. She graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry in 2007 and completed her orthodontics doctoral training at Başkent University Faculty of Dentistry in 2012. She worked as an orthodontics specialist in a private dental health clinic. Yasemen Boncuk Tüzgiray was married and the mother of two children. Her professional interests included early orthodontic treatment, fixed orthodontic treatment, clear aligner therapy, and dental photography. She was a member of the Turkish Orthodontic Society (TOD).

To apply for the Yasemen Boncuk Tüzgiray Clinical Poster Award, the following conditions must be met:

  1. The clinical practice/case presentation must be original and unpublished.
  2. The presenter of the poster must have completed their specialization/doctorate within the last 5 years and must be a TOD member.
  3. Applicants must indicate their intention to apply for the award on the abstract form and upload a 5-slide presentation along with the abstract before the final abstract submission date. The presentation will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee to determine its eligibility for the Clinical Poster Award.
  4. Eligible posters will be presented by the indicated presenter during the congress/symposium (provided the presenter is registered for the event) and will be scored by the Scientific Committee.
  5. The highest-scoring poster presentation will be awarded the Yasemen Boncuk Tüzgiray Clinical Poster Award.
  6. The decision of the Scientific Committee will be announced during the congress/symposium.
  7. TOD reserves the right to determine the amount of the Clinical Poster Award.
  8. The award will be granted if there are sufficient eligible submissions, as determined by the Scientific Committee.
